Flute Fingering Charts

There are lots of great flute finger charts out there. There are even flute fingering chart books. Here are just a few.

Books you can purchase

My favorite book of fingerings is "A Modern Guide to Flute Fingerings" by James Pellerite. If you are looking for a book to carry with you for reference, this is it! It has all the basic fingerings, but it also has many alternates, trills and tremolos, along with descriptions of how the alternates work and what they are good for. You can purchase this book in many places, Flute World, Just Flutes, and Amazon.

For a book with comprehensive alternative fingerings for piccolo, "The Complete Piccolo" by Jan Gippo is great. While you can use all the flute fingerings on piccolo, sometimes, you can get better results when you use a piccolo specific fingering option. You can also find this book at Flute World, Just Flutes,  and Amazon

My Favorite App - Both desktop and mobile

Picture
The Fingercharts app is my all time favorite finger chart app. It has all the alternates the Pellerite book has, and great indications of when to use it and why. For example - it will have a f - for Forte if a fingering is good for loud passages. Or an arrow pointing ⬇️ for a fingering that lowers the pitch. It also has multiple fingerings for each note - represented by circles at the top of the page oooooooo, each o represents another fingering and you can move through all the possibilities.

Fingercharts for Desktop or Laptop or Mobile - online in browser
Fingercharts app for download - It is worth it to purchase the pro for $5.99 for a lifetime. The free version does not give any of the fingering choices. It only gives the basic fingerings. It's still good, but the pro app is exponentially better!

Best part??? This app is also available for other instruments! Fingercharts is available also for oboe, clarinet, and sax.
